Online Modern English Westminster Shorter Catechism with ESV Proof Texts

I've been looking for an online modern English version of the WSC with ESV Scripture proofs for a long time and even started designing my own. I discovered it's a lot of work and very time consuming. Alas, Martin Eagle has accomplished this feat based on Rowland S. Ward's text, and it is found at the link below. Thanks Martin and Mr. Ward!!!

Responsibility for Evangelism in the EPC Book of Order

By Daniel L. Sonnenberg

It is clear from early on in the EPC, that the primary task of the church, after worshipping God regularly, is evangelism.

Reformed Evangelism by Morton Smith

Reformed Evangelism by Morton Smith

An excerpt...
...it should be observed that evangelism is to be defined as the setting forth of the good news of the Gospel of Christ, and not on the basis of the results of that proclamation. Very simply stated, evangelism involves the telling of the truth about the Gospel to sinners. There are many elements that may be included in this statement of the truth, such as, the Bible view of God, our need of a Saviour due to our sinfulness, and the saving work of our Lord. A study of the presentations of the Gospel by Jesus and the apostles will reveal that there is no stereotyped form in which this Gospel was presented. In each case there is variety as to the specific content set forth, and in the way in which it was done. This will come out more clearly as biblical examples are considered.

Exporting and Importing Gmail contacts (between gmail accounts)

Exporting Gmail contacts

You can quickly export your Gmail Contacts list into a CSV file. Here's how:
Sign in to Gmail.
Click Gmail at the top-left corner of your Gmail page, then choose Contacts.
From the More drop-down menu, select Export....
Choose whether to export all contacts or only one group.
Select the format in which you'd like to export your contacts' information. Please note, some of these formats can lose some contact information. To transfer contacts between Google accounts, use the Google CSV format. This is the recommended way to back up your Google Contacts.
To transfer contacts to Outlook, Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail, or various other apps, use the Outlook CSV format.
To transfer contacts to Apple Address Book, use the vCard format.

Click Export.
Choose Save to Disk then click OK.
Select a location to save your file, and click OK.

Depending on the requirements of the program to which you're exporting your contacts from Gmail, you can easily edit the file to fit your needs.

Importing CSV files

To import contacts to Gmail:
  1. Create a custom CSV file, or export the address book from your other webmail provider or email client as a CSV file.
  2. Sign in to Gmail.
  3. Click Gmail at the top-left corner of your Gmail page, then choose Contacts.

  4. From the More actions dropdown menu, select Import....

  5. Click the Choose File button.

  6. Select the file you'd like to upload and click the Import button.

When it's done, Gmail will display the number of contacts imported. If you receive any error messages during the import, you might need to edit your CSV file. Note: These CSV files work with Outlook, Outlook Express, Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail, Eudora, and some other email providers. But the CSV files that these applications produce might not contain all of the supported contact fields. For example, when Outlook exports to a CSV file, it omits data including attachments, distribution lists, contact pictures, the "file as" field, the "nickname" field, and text formatting in the "notes" field. Google Contacts doesn’t have a way to know what was omitted, so we suggest that you manually copy over any important information in these fields after you import your contacts.

About the notes field:

  • Google Contacts doesn't support rich text formatting, or unlimited length in the “notes” field. When we're unable to import a certain field from the CSV, we do our best to let you know so that you can fix it manually.
  • The maximum size for a contact is 128 KB. If a contact exceeds this size, the "notes" field might be truncated.

Seeing Jesus in Genesis Forum

Following is a link to my first experiment using Google Sites. Seeing Jesus in Genesis Forum.  Stonebridge Church (EPC), is studying The Promised One: Seeing Jesus in Genesis by Nancy Guthrie (Crossway), so I created a website to keep everyone on track from week to week. Also includes links to my sermons from this series of studies.

God's Promised Blessings Encourage Us to Pray

God’s promised blessings give us courage to pray. In 1 Chronicles 17, King David desired to build a house for the Lord, but was told that he would not be the one to do so. Instead, he was told, God would build a house for him (David). He would receive God’s covenant blessings. The prophet Nathan said to him, “‘I declare to you that the LORD will build a house for you: 11When your days are over and you go to be with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. 12 He is the one who will build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever. 13 I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will never take my love away from him, as I took it away from your predecessor. 14 I will set him over my house and my kingdom forever; his throne will be established forever.’”

Changing Lives in Low-Income Neighborhoods

As we consider who we are called to reach with the Gospel in the Perrysburg - Toledo, Ohio area, I noticed a good article on the effect of teaching about the kingdom of God in a particular kind of neighborhood. It includes the following quote which I consider to be a good definition of the kingdom of God.

Tim Keller on Evangelistic Worship

Posted on  by Daniel L. Sonnenberg

Pastor Tim Keller shares what I think are some very helpful ideas about preparing for and communicating the gospel to unbelievers in Sunday worship. To understand what he means by “evangelistic worship” you may need to read the entire article. He doesn’t mean using a pre-packaged form of “seeker-sensitive” or “traditional” worship. He believes worship is best fashioned with a view to the the Bible, the cultural context and the historic tradition of each particular church. Here’s an excerpt to whet your appetite.

Tim Keller on Preaching to a Mixed Audience

Posted on  by Daniel L. Sonnenberg
I appreciate the work of Pastor Tim Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian in downtown Manhattan in New York City. Over the past twenty years he has brought the Gospel to bear on a generation of mostly professionals who are now corporately seeking to renew the city “socially, spiritually and culturally.”
